Last summer, 7

The first time I saw a hummingbird was two years ago, almost to date.
That winter, in Sid's garden, hovering next to a blossoming cherry tree.
A miracle. I was speechless, I the alien. Sid went on fixing the water mains.

Ever since, the hummingbird holds a special meaning for me.
Having been able to spot these tiny creatures twice on the recent
visit, and always just when I'd been thinking of Sid, was really something.

Everything about Santa Monica: I expected him to emerge from around the
corner any time, and we'd all go off to a deli for a chat.

You are dearly missed, in all the things that make me smile.

  1. Thank you for this, we have loads of Hummer's each year in Laguna Beach, Ca. and I have taken care of other baby birds but, I did not know I could help a baby Humming bird if I had to, until now. Cheers

  2. Hi there,

Thank you for writing -- living with hummingbirds around makes me feel positively envious, enjoy : ) Good luck with any bird rescues, too.

    Cheers

  3. Thank you, I love birds! Your sculpture's are wonderful. I made contemporary sculpture(rock and steel) during and after Art school but then ran out of places for them to live so I started painting more. I discovered your Blog while looking up Shaun's work, I just purchased all his books after buying, The Lost Thing, on iTunes.Cool stuff. And I'm so Happy to learn of your art work too. Best of luck.

    Cheers, Dave

  4. Thank you Dave. Let us know please where to see your paintings (and sculptures!) if you have them online...? Yes space can be a problem, but there is at least that advantage in working in jewellery / small object scale that things can still be stored indoors on shelves and tables. Enjoy your purchased too and keep in touch regarding art stuff -- and how you go with the 'hummers' : )
