  2. Yes indeed we did, that was one of the highlights of the trip. Could have easily spent several days there. Thank you for your comment, glad to hear from others who've been to Koyasan and appreciated the place.

  3. Maybe we stayed at the same 'temple inn' that you did... In the morning we attended their fire ceremony when they burned lots of pieces of wood (with writing on?). Strong memories! I remember walking high up in the mist on Koyasan, hearing the uguisu bird making its distinctive call... an extremely atmospheric moment.

  5. well i'm english (which is where we live) but my wife is japanese, so we generally come here (outskirts of tokyo) every summer, which is where we are now! it's great to have a family rooted in 2 very different cultures - but it does mean we never really get to visit anywhere else..!
