Last summer, 2

Per Kaisli e Michele

From Milan, we headed to the lakes
and drove up a long mountain.
There in residence, grand style,
was winter.

On the way back
it got warmer again

I know what I did last summer, 1

It's been a while.
And it's been an amazing ride, this summer; up and down,
most definitely and in extremes. For the both of us.

With the palpable turn of seasons now, it's time to return.
Perhaps slowly at first, as I feel that autumn is piling its weight
right on my chest, but it's time. And it won't be long.

Here I come. These pictures were taken late December,
in Switzerland with family. It was very good to be together.

Hope you are well and happy. More soon –
and warmest wishes for the new year once again.

todo sobre mi madre – safe armour neck piece

todo sobre mi madre, 2008, safety pins, industrial catch * Inari Kiuru 2008

I've recently began to photograph my jewellery work, mostly for archival purposes. This is a neck piece inspired by the 1999 Pedro Almodovar film All About My Mother, made for the annual RMIT jewellery auction a couple of years ago. I like the graphic way safety pins weave together and form a strong yet light texture. One day I'll make a protective coat out of them. Armour for the city.

Thank you again Kiah Grace McIntyre for the long and patient loan of the piece.

Dads and clouds

Unlike in Australia, Fathers' Day in Finland falls onto the second Sunday of November, six months after Mothers' Day. (You don't want to party all the time, now do you, is the Finnish way of thinking. And while you're at it, please refrain from wearing bright colours at any time; singing is only allowed in minor keys at a slow tempo, and no laughing aloud, please, before the blood alcohol hits a certain level.)

But to commemorate this day anyway, here is how my Dad takes in the world. He steers his nearest and dearest up the highest mountain available : ) These are photos dad took a couple of days ago, at an alpine meadow on Chagerrug, Switzerland, close by where they nowadays live. There is my whole, much missed far away clan, high up a mountain, among the passing clouds, sitting on the edge of the world. Cheers xx.
